The contract between the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Islamic Community has been politicized, says the advisor to the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Mustafa Prljača. All points of the contract passed the procedure, agreement was reached at all levels, and the Council of Ministers forwarded the contract to the Presidency for approval in 2015, and that’s when, he says, the problem arose.

– And then the problem arises unnecessarily, then things from that contract start to be politicized, it starts to be said that the Islamic community gets more than other religious communities, that some points of the contract are disputed even though they were discussed and an agreement was reached, says Prljača.

It is obvious that there is a lack of political consensus within the BiH Presidency, according to Prof. Nedim Begović from the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, UNS.

– What this contract would allow – it would create a legal basis for legislative accommodation or for a systemic solution to the issue in such a way that the labor laws and the civil service laws adopt changes that would allow this accommodation of religion in the workplace – not only for Muslims but also for members of other religious traditions, he said.
