[마이데일리 = 박윤진 기자] Ex-member Chris (Chinese name Wu Yipan, 31), a member of the idol group EXO, was arrested by Chinese police on charges of rape.

On the 31st of last month (local time), the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau’s Chaoyang branch said on Weibo, a social networking service (SNS), “In relation to the suspicions raised on the Internet that Wu Pan (Wu Yi Pan) lured a young woman to have sex several times. We have conducted an investigation,” he said.

Criminal detention in China is a personal detention measure equivalent to arrest in Korea.

The allegations of sexual assault by Chris were sparked by the revelations of a woman named Doumeijoo, who claimed to be Chris’ ex-girlfriend.

In an interview with a local media last month, Doumeiju (18) claimed that Chris sexually assaulted women by asking for a meeting through an interview for casting or a fan meeting.

On Weibo, Chris denies Dumeijou’s allegations are completely untrue, saying that if the allegations are true, “I will go to jail on my own feet.” He emphasized that he and Dumeiju had only met once at a meeting in December last year.

Chris’s side also sued Dumeijoo for blackmail, claiming that he threatened him with a large sum of money.

However, public security announced the results of the interim investigation on the 22nd of last month and concluded that the blackmailer was a man impersonating him, not Dumeiju.

According to the police at the time, it was confirmed that Chris had sex with Dumeiju.

Public security believes that Chris is likely to be charged with rape. Chris is a Canadian citizen, but if the charges are proven, he could face the maximum death penalty under Chinese criminal law. Whether they had consensual sex is expected to be a key issue.

Chris is a Chinese-Canadian singer and actor who is active in Greater China, and debuted as a member of the group EXO in 2012. After working for two years, he filed a lawsuit against his agency SM Entertainment to void his exclusive contract and left for China.
