According to the legal community on the 30th, Mr. A (35), a Chinese man, became close to Mr. B, a female co-worker of the same nationality in May 2021.
As the friendship deepened, Mr. A felt favorable to Mr. B, a married woman.
Mr. B’s Korean husband, Mr. C, naturally became the object of envy and jealousy of Mr. A.
After some time, Mr. B introduced her husband to Mr. A, and they developed into a drinking party.
The incident started at this drinking party.
On September 6 of the same year, around 10 pm, they gathered at a pub in Jeongeup-si and invited two Chinese acquaintances to hang out together.
They shared a glass of wine and talked with Mr. C, the only person of a different nationality, through a mobile phone app translator.
Then, Mr. A said to the app in Chinese, “Today was fun, so let’s play together with my sister (B) next time.”
However, the app translator mistranslated Korean, saying, “Let’s play with the girl next time.”
Mr. C, who mistook the young lady for a karaoke waitress, said, “Why are you looking for a young lady. I have a wife.”
Enraged, Mr. A responded with abusive language and left his seat, and in the process, Mr. C was punched in the face.
Mr. A was unable to suppress his resentment at the shame and humiliation that he was assaulted in front of Mr. B, whom he had a crush on.
He bought a weapon at a nearby mart and lured Mr. C, who was returning home a few hours later, to the parking lot.
When Mr. C did not express his regret even in the face-to-face situation, Mr. A stabbed Mr. C in the neck and abdomen 13 times with a knife.
He continued the crime by following Mr. C, who ran away from himself even after being stabbed with a knife.
In the end, Mr. C died, and Mr. A went to a nearby district street and surrendered himself.
Person A, charged with murder, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the 1st Criminal Division of the Jeongeup Branch of the Jeonju District Court.
“The accused murdered the victim in a very cruel way, including stabbing the victim 13 times,” the court said. pointed out
“Nevertheless, the accused was not forgiven by the bereaved family and made no effort to reach an agreement,” he said.
The appeal is currently being handled by the Jeonju Tribunal of the Gwangju High Court.
