[천지일보=이솜 기자] In October alone, 1,300 Myanmar soldiers were killed in armed struggles by rebel forces in Myanmar, according to the National Unity Government (NUG), a provisional government for the rebels’ democratic camp.

According to local media Irrawaddy on the 12th, citing the NUG Ministry of National Defense, 1,300 Myanmar soldiers were killed and 463 were wounded in clashes with 668 resistance groups between October 7th and November 6th. That’s twice the number of casualties from the military regime in September.

At the same time, the number of civilians killed in the past month has nearly doubled. In September, 174 incidents killed 164 civilians and injured 109. In October, 197 incidents of violence by the military regime resulted in approximately 313 deaths and 63 wounded.

Some of the civilian casualties were from the Civil Defense Force (PDF).

Irrawaddy said the violence has intensified across the country since Deputy Commander So Win, the second-in-command of the Myanmar military, ordered the destruction of PDFs.

According to the NUG, in August, about 580 Myanmar soldiers were killed and 190 wounded in 443 gunfights, ambush attacks and assassinations with the Myanmar military, PDF and ethnic armed groups.

The military regime has shown little reaction to the figures of Myanmar military casualties.

After the NUG declared war on the military against the military regime nationwide on September 7, they killed detained civilians as human shields, bombed residential areas, and looted and burned houses, especially in Mague, Sagaing, Chin, and Shanzhou. Atrocities are on the rise, Irrawaddy explained.

The number of shootouts between the military regimes and PDF in Mague, Sagaing and Chinzhou has doubled in recent years. Civilians, mainly home-made or armed with traditional weapons, face off against Myanmar’s armed forces with heavy weapons and armored vehicles. The military government deployed an additional 3,000 soldiers this month alone.

In addition to the PDF attacks, the Myanmar military faces opposition from ethnic armed groups such as the Kachin Independence Army, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance, the Karen National Coalition and the Karenni National Progressive Party. About 100 Myanmar soldiers are being killed every day in recent days as civilian resistance groups expand operations in major cities such as Yangon, Mandalay and Naypitau.

According to the Association for Supporting Political Prisoners, as of the 10th, 1,522 people were killed by the Myanmar military and 9979 people were detained by the military government.
