Efforts Underway to Delay Kidney Failure in Na Fai Sub-District
Today, in the conference room of the Na Fai Sub-District Administrative Institute, located in the Mueang District of Chaiyaphum Province, Colonel Sorawit Ma-in, President of the Na Fai Sub-District Administrative Organization, led a significant medical initiative. Joining him was Dr. Amorn Premkamon, a former specialist in kidney disease from Srinagarindra Hospital in Khon Kaen Province. The objective of this project is to provide examination and treatment for patients suffering from kidney disease in the Na Fai Sub-District.
A Growing Concern
Chronic kidney disease has been on the rise, particularly in this region. Patients in the Na Fai Sub-District are increasingly facing chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney failure. These conditions demand ongoing and costly treatment. In the case of end-stage kidney failure, patients require either hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, which stretches the budget significantly. Recognizing the urgent need to address this issue, the Na Fai Sub-Regional Administrative Institute has launched a project in 2023 to delay kidney failure.
Prevention and Quality Care
The aim of this project is to raise awareness about the importance of personal health care among patients with chronic kidney disease. It seeks to educate individuals about preventing chronic kidney disease, as well as ways to care for and delay end-stage kidney failure. By providing quality treatment from the early stages of the disease, patients can experience an improved quality of life. Additionally, this proactive approach can help reduce the substantial government costs associated with medical treatments for end-stage renal failure.
Community Involvement
Villagers across the 19 villages in the Na Fai Sub-District who have been affected by kidney disease at various stages are actively participating in this project. Over 70 individuals have already undergone screening and evaluation for symptoms of chronic kidney failure. Those in need of treatment will receive medical attention and will be provided with free take-home medicine. This pioneering initiative is the first of its kind at the sub-district level in Thailand.
Commitment and Dedication
Colonel Sorawit Ma-in, the President of the Na Fai Sub-Regional Administrative Organization, has expressed his commitment to addressing the growing prevalence of chronic kidney disease in the northeastern region. Since assuming his position a year ago, he has witnessed firsthand the impact of this condition on the local community. As a result, he collaborated with Dr. Amorn Premkamon, a respected kidney disease specialist from Srinagarindra Hospital, to establish a dedicated team to examine and treat patients at all stages of the disease. The remarkable aspect of this endeavor is that patients are receiving treatment without incurring any costs.
Today, a group of 70 patients with chronic kidney failure has been admitted for treatment. For those who remain untreated, future initiatives will be planned to address their needs.
