In Europe, the infection of the new coronavirus has spread again, and each country is busy responding. There is a growing movement to shift the “coexistence with corona” route and strengthen infection prevention measures.

A typical example is Austria. The infection spread from mid-October, and the number of newly infected people reached a record high of 13,152 on the 13th. Therefore, the government has taken lockdown measures for unvaccinated people for 15 to 10 days. Except for grocery shopping and work, they stay at home. On the 17th, the number of newly infected people was 14,416.

The vaccination rate in Austria is 64.6%, which is not high compared to other European countries. With a surge in patients, the intensive care unit is filling up in Salzburg. This is the reason why the government is taking a strict response with a sense of crisis.

European countries that have re-entered high alert

Looking at the vaccination rate rankings of major countries in the world as of 19th, (1) Spain 80.20%, (2) South Korea 78.57%, (3) Japan 76.09%, (4) China 74.35%, (5) Italy 72.76%, (6) France 68.81%, (7) United Kingdom 67.54 %, ⑧ Germany 67.17%, ⑨ Brazil 60.04%, ⑩ Turkey 58.61%.

Europe is land-based, the virus travels across national borders, and infection spreads easily. In Germany, the powerhouse next to Austria, the number of infections began to increase from mid-October, and on the 17th, the number of newly infected people reached a record high of 68,366. The government is requesting unvaccinated people to be vaccinated, and states are tightening regulations to prevent infection.

In Baden-Württemberg, where Stuttgart is located, the intensive care unit has become full and alert levels have been raised. Also, in Munich, the annual Christmas market selling Christmas decorations has been cancelled.
