Zhang Jialang won the gold medal in the men’s foil individual event at the Tokyo Olympics. After the team competition, he flew directly to Shenzhen for isolation for 21 days and trained with the fencing team in the local area. He was originally scheduled to meet Zhang Xiaolun, Cai Junyan and Yang Zijia this morning to fly from Shenzhen to Tianjin for the National Games. However, he found his knee swelled before departure and his injury was unknown. The team arranged for him to retire and return to Hong Kong for safety reasons. The 24-year-old Zhang Jialang was originally scheduled to lead the gold medal in the National Foil Individual Championship next Sunday. He had already stated that he would target the gold medal after his trip to the Eastern Olympics, but he had no choice but to abandon the battle after isolation. The Hong Kong team won the silver medal in the individual competition with Cui Haoran at the National Games last year, and also stabbed the bronze medal in the team competition with Zhang Jialang, Zhang Xiaolun and Chen Jianxiong. The Dong Olympic women’s epee representative Zhu Jiawang also injured his right hand a few days ago and has withdrawn from this National Games. The team continues to be led by Jiang Minjian.
