With the international commemoration day for autism coming to an end, April 2, it is necessary to talk about this news, as contingent as it is relevant: the new law on autism. Along these lines, I hope to be the voice of many families and especially those who cannot speak, but can communicate and express themselves in a neurodiverse way.

On March 10, the new autism law was published in the official gazette, a date to remember for all of us who are part of the condition or, for those of us who contribute to the fight for empowerment as subjects of right to people with autism; This law contributes to raising awareness in three relevant areas: health, education and social participation, respecting their neurodiverse condition and thereby validating the cognitive accessibility that each person deserves in a particular and specific way.

With this law at the health level, the necessary resources are ensured for early research and benefits throughout the life cycle, in such a way that everyone can access quality health care and monitoring, which can be achieve through training of all its active members.

On the other hand, in education it will seek to promote inclusive education, directing policies and regulations at the school level that encourage active participation in the classroom of all people with autism, so it will be necessary to respect their way of learning, for example, if it requires the incorporation of pictograms or an augmentative alternative communication system, which allows you to participate and contribute in your environment. Therefore, it will be a duty of the establishment to encourage compliance with this.

Finally, the role of the “caregivers / caregivers” is highlighted, who accompany unconditionally, with the law recognizing their importance, to the point of being able to accompany and support the educational establishment of their son / daughter in a situation emergency, without prejudice to their job function, thus ensuring the power to provide emotional support, which every boy and girl needs, regardless of their condition.

Just to finish, remember and not forget that “in an inclusive society, we all win”, we gain in experiences and learning, which will make us unique as a member of a great family, which we call society.
