New Jeans’ 2nd Mini Album ‘Get Up’ Records Over 1.7 Million Pre-orders
The second mini album of the group New Jeans, titled ‘Get Up,’ has already exceeded 1.7 million pre-orders ahead of its release today at 1 pm. This astonishing number suggests that the album is going to be a massive hit in the music industry.
According to YG PLUS, the album distributor, this is the third highest number of pre-orders for a K-pop girl group, following Blackpink’s 2nd regular album ‘Bon Pink,’ which recorded 2 million pre-orders, and Aespa’s 3rd mini album ‘My World,’ which recorded 1.8 million pre-orders.
Compared to their previous single ‘OMG,’ which had around 800,000 pre-orders, ‘Get Up’ has more than doubled the number. New Jeans’ continuous popularity has resulted in a total of 1.57 million copies sold since their debut album ‘New Jeans’ and the single ‘OMG’ (as of June).
The agency Ador commented, “With New Jeans’ increasing global fandom and their elevated status in the mainstream pop market, selling 2 million copies of a single album is not an impossible feat.”
‘Get Up’ comprises a total of 6 songs, showcasing the group’s versatility by incorporating various genres such as UK Garage, Jersey Club, Funk, House, R&B, and Euro Pop.
Two of the triple title songs have already been released. The refreshing and catchy ‘Super Shy’ was unveiled as a pre-release song, while the dreamy track ‘Cool With You’ was introduced through a cinematic music video.
The remaining title track, ‘ETA,’ which was previewed at a recent fan meeting, still remains a mystery. However, the teaser for this track suggests a fast beat with a sense of speed and a funk mood reminiscent of “favela funk.”
Furthermore, other pre-released songs such as the prologue song ‘New Jeans,’ the interlude track ‘Get Up,’ and the epilogue song ‘ASAP’ add to the anticipation for the album.
New Jeans has also delivered powerful performances that match the atmosphere of each song. Adding to the excitement, the music video for ‘Cool With You’ was directed by Shin Woo-seok of the Dolphin Kidnappers, known for creating hit videos for New Jeans’ previous songs ‘Ditto’ and ‘OMG.’ The video, which reinterprets the Greek myth of ‘Eros and Psyche,’ features Leung Joo-wi (Leang Zhao-wei) and Jung Ho-yeon.
“Super Shy” has already achieved remarkable success, reaching number 59 and 66 on the UK Official Singles Chart and the US Billboard’s “Hot 100,” and dominating major domestic music charts.
