New protests by ArcelorMittal Zenica workers

The workers of ArcelorMittal Zenica yesterday (Monday, op.a.), in front of the ArcelorMittal management, expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that a new individual collective agreement was not signed, that is, their request for a salary increase was not met. “There is no progress. On Thursday we had the Assembly of the AMZ Trade Union, tomorrow we have an extraordinary session. In an additional email, we addressed the Company that we had an Assembly and that we were heading towards a general strike. We have not received any response. The same email also reached the new general director. The demands are the same, an increase in the hourly rate, coefficient, remuneration for a hot meal,… When we take everything into account, it is an increase of 25-30%”, said Rašid Fetić, president of the AMZ union, adding that they could go on a general strike at the end of November .

The President of the ZDK Metalworkers’ Union, Kenan Mujkanović, once again reminded that the salaries of ArcelorMittal workers are calculated using the lowest hourly rate of the metal sector in the FBiH. “Given the fact that it’s ArcelorMittal, which is the world’s largest giant, it’s not a salary, it’s a charity,” said Mujkanović, among other things.
The president of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Selvedin Šatorović, pointed out that this is an attempt to completely ignore the demands of the workers. “It is being played to break this whole story somewhere in the collective, however, the Union has remained united and we will continue to exert pressure. In the coming period, we expect the involvement of the relevant Federal Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining”, said, among other things, Šatorović, adding that the workers of ArcelorMittal are not alone, and that representatives of other organizations of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina have joined them, and in order to show them support in the fight for their rights.
