New single Jonathan Bree & Nile Rodgers

Anyone who thinks that an old legend like Nile Rodgers has played out these days is very wrong. Not only did the genius behind Chic throw a great party at Pinkpop 2022 last summer, he is now also collaborating with the intriguing Jonathan Bree from New Zealand for a captivating single. Bree was best known for the song “You’re So Cool from 2018 and the accompanying video clip, in which masked musicians and dancers leave you with a slightly uncomfortable feeling. The images therefore perfectly match his music: think sixties atmospheres, subtle strings and Bree’s captivating voice. Those who want more of that can look forward to a completely new album: that’s called Pre-Code Hollywood and we can listen from April 14. From that new album we now get to hear the title track and the third taster.

His signature style is continued on “Pre-Code Hollywood”, although the influence of Nile Rodgers is of course unmistakable. The tempo is increased a bit and the whole thing is funkier and more danceable thanks to the oh-so recognizable Chic-like guitars that pop up every now and then. Also, the production is richer than usual making it a warmer track than say the good, but cool “You’re So Cool”.

With “Pre-Code Hollywood” Jonathan Bree enriches his sound thanks to the surprising collaboration with Nile Rodgers and thus comes up with an atmospheric and easily danceable single. An ideal song to shuffle up with your sweetheart late in the evening. Or just natural, that’s probably how Jonathan Bree himself would like it too.
