New Tesla V4 Supercharger Technology Unveiled: A Look at Faster Charging and Upgraded Design

The Launch of V4 Superchargers: A Look at the Advancements

As Tesla accelerates the rollout of V4 Superchargers across the US, delivering a fast charging experience has become a hot topic.

The main character in this story is YouTuber ‘Kim Java’. After discovering the new V4 supercharger in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, he started charging his Tesla Model 3 and released an accompanying video.

If you look at the video, you can see that the V4 stool has an improved design compared to the previous one and has an integrated Magic Dock (or CCS-1 adapter), a digital credit card reader, and a compact display.

The charger has a larger planetary structure and features a lighter, extended cable measuring 3048mm, which is 1006mm longer than the cable fitted to the V3 Supercharger.

Advancements in V4 Supercharger Performance

In addition, the charger is rated at 1000V and 615A, so it is assumed that 615kW performance is theoretically possible. With faster speed and higher voltage, it is expected to support high voltage battery systems for electric vehicles such as Hyundai Motor Company’s IONIQ 5 and Audi E-tron GT.

However, it is not yet clear if additional hardware is required to activate the 350 kW supercharger or if Tesla will follow a software update.

Mr. Java, who connected the V4 supercharger cable to his Model 3, was surprised to see that the performance increased from 20% to 60% in just 10 minutes at 255kW. If a higher power output is provided, the charging waiting time will be longer expected to decrease.

Future Possibilities

Meanwhile, in the video, a trailer-only charging space is also captured at the Atlanta V4 Supercharger, and it is expected that Tesla Semi electric trucks will also be able to be charged here.
