Brazilian superstar Neymar has made headlines after stating that the quality of the Saudi Pro League surpasses that of the French league. His remarks came during a press conference held as part of the Brazilian team’s training session, where he was questioned about the disparity between the two leagues. The renowned forward recently made a move from Paris Saint-Germain to Saudi club Al Hilal.

“I can assure you that the essence of football remains the same regardless of the location. The ball remains round, and goals are still scored,” Neymar responded confidently. “Judging by the presence of numerous high-profile stars currently plying their trade in the Saudi league, it is safe to say that it may even outshine its French counterpart.”

In recent times, several renowned football stars have decided to make lucrative moves to Saudi clubs. Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo pioneered this trend, followed by the likes of Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, Ruben Neves, Aymeric Laporte, and Anderson Talisca. Neymar’s colossal multi-billion transfer to Saudi Arabia solidified this trend.

Having spent six seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar hinted at a lack of satisfaction during his time in France. Despite displaying moments of brilliance despite injury setbacks, the Brazilian captain struggled to rediscover his peak form. Neymar recently described his stint at PSG as “akin to living in hell.” He also alluded to difficulties faced by himself and close friend Lionel Messi, the Argentinean captain, in adapting to the conditions at PSG. Messi voiced similar sentiments, revealing his family’s unhappiness during their tenure in Paris.

“I assure you football is the same there. The ball is round. There are more goals. “Looking at the presence of big stars playing in the Saudi league today, it can be said that it is better than the French league,” said Neymar.

Many of the brightest stars in modern football have moved to Saudi clubs for huge sums. The famous Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo started this trend. Later, prominent players such as Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane, N’Golo Kante, Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mehtes, Ruben Neves, Aymeric Laporte and Anderson Talisca visited Saudi Arabia. Neymar also ended up jetting off to Saudi Arabia in a massive multi-billion transfer.

Neymar, who played for PSG for six seasons, recently suggested that he was not enjoying his time in France. The Brazilian captain was unable to return to his shining form although he was able to play brilliantly despite being plagued by injuries. Neymar recently said that his time playing for PSG was ‘like living in hell’. Neymar also revealed that he and his close friend and Argentina captain Lionel Messi had a hard time adapting to PSG’s conditions. Messi also said that he and his family were not happy at all during their time in Paris.
