NFT exchange Opensea stolen more than 7.8 million hackers drilled loopholes to buy high-priced NFTs at low prices

Although NFT uses blockchain technology, the actual transaction is the same as virtual currency, and it is generally traded through general exchanges. Recently, the world’s largest NFT exchange Opensea was discovered by hackers, and a batch of NFT assets with great potential were traded at par.

The NFT assets that were successfully traded at low prices by hackers were 8 different high-value NFT assets, including Bored Ape Yacht Club, Cool Cats, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Cyberkongz and so on. One of the transactions, No. 9991 of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, was successfully hacked through the loophole and was traded for 0.77 ETH (approximately HKD 14,500), and then in less than half an hour, another 84.2 ETH (approximately HKD 14,500). (valued at HK$1.59 million) was sold, and the hacker received at least 1.57 million yuan in income.

It is said that the Opensea vulnerability was discovered by a netizen named bor4edape93 in June last year (2021) and has been reported to the official. However, this vulnerability has not been fixed, which may eventually lead to this incident.

According to the netizen, if NFT sellers transfer NFT commodities to other wallets, the listing price will be cancelled. Hackers suspected of exploiting this vulnerability and purchased these high-value NFT assets at a low price.

At present, the account of the suspected hacker has been closed, and it may be officially deleted. Opensea did not respond to the incident.
