Nigeria.. 50,000 Boko Haram fighters lay down their arms

The Nigerian army announced that more than 50,000 fighters from the armed group “Boko Haram” have laid down their weapons and surrendered to the authorities this year.

“More than 50,000 Boko Haram fighters and their families surrendered to the authorities between July 2021 and May 2022,” said General Loki Irabo, Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Army.

He explained that the integration program enabled the repentance of “1,543 militants from Boko Haram” in Malam Sidi camp in Gombe province, between 2016 and 2022, while the number of those released reached 1,935 in Polomkoto camp in Maiduguri region.

For more than a decade, Nigeria has been witnessing insecurity due to the activity of the armed “Boko Haram” movement, which recently split to give rise to a new movement that pledged allegiance to the “ISIS” organization.
