Kochi – Malayalee nurse Nimishipriya, who was sentenced to death in the case of killing a Yemeni citizen, and is in prison in Yemen, has received a decisive intervention. The Yemeni head of criminal prosecution gave instructions to speed up the process. Various documents such as court order, charity application etc. should be submitted to the Supreme Court. The prosecution was prompted by the intervention of the family of the slain Yemeni citizen.

The next few days will be crucial as the steps to free Nihimipriya by giving alms have not reached anywhere. Manorama News has obtained a copy of the letter sent by the Head of Criminal Prosecution.

Nimishipriya, who worked as a nurse in Yemen, was sentenced to death in connection with the murder of a Yemeni teenager. Under Yemeni law, the accused can be pardoned if the victim’s family forgives him. The Yemeni prison authorities had earlier informed that the family of the murdered Talal is ready to negotiate and they will have to pay 50 million Yemeni Riyals (about Rs. 1.5 crore) as compensation.
