The root of this story is James, aged 80, which should be the age of retirement and leisure. He had to apply for a job as a school janitor in January as the rent had risen to $400 a month and he was unable to earn a living.

Three pupils at the school hear the story of a new porter. so he decided to start such a fundraising project. To raise money for Mr. James lived after retirement without working.

They set a goal of $10,000 (about 348,000 baht) by publishing the story on the TikTok platform so that more people are interested in donating money.

Fundraising ended yesterday (February 24), with the amount raised far exceeding the target. Because it raised to more than 270,000 US dollars (about 9.4 million baht) ever, with 8,000 people participating in the fundraising.

One of those who started the project, Grayson Thurman, a Grade 6 student, said: “When I saw him in the hall It breaks my heart… No one at this age should be working anymore. They should be able to spend the rest of their lives.”

Chao added, “Nobody deserves to work all their life. They deserve to be happy now.”

Marty Yusko, another founder of the project, said: “When we told James he was like, ‘Hey, it’s OK!'”

James himself did not give interviews to the media. but he consented to the revelation of his life story. James received the money raised from the fundraiser or not, and the information from Wednesday (February 23) indicated that James has not filed any resignation.

James’ story highlights the serious financial problems among aging Americans. Today, millions of Americans are still working beyond retirement age.

The US Bureau of Labor and Statistics estimates by 2030, the number of people over the age of 75 in the US who will still be working. increases to 96.5%
