North Korea and US nuclear submarine technology transfer to Australia “If safety impact is affected, we will respond accordingly”

North Korea has criticized the United States’ recent decision to transfer technology to build nuclear-powered submarines to Australia, warning it could take countermeasures.

In an interview with the Korean Central News Agency, the head of the foreign affairs department of the North Korean Foreign Ministry’s press office said, “The US’s decision to establish a trilateral security cooperation system with the UK and Australia and transfer technology to build nuclear-powered submarines to Australia destroys the strategic balance in the Asia-Pacific region and leads to a series of “It’s a very funny and dangerous act that triggers a nuclear arms race.”

North Korea said, “We are strictly analyzing the background and prospects for the U.S. making this decision,” and said, “If there is any negative impact on North Korea’s safety, we will surely take a corresponding response.”

North Korea also insisted, “The developed situation once again confirms that in order to cope with the changing international security environment, we must not delay even for a moment in the project of strengthening the national defense capability from a long-term perspective.”
