North Korea launches an intermediate-range ballistic missile, passing over Japan for the first time in five years

◀ anchor ▶

North Korea fired another ballistic missile three days later.

The missile launched this morning is a medium range ballistic missile believed to be the Hwasong-12.

The missile launched east of North Korea’s Jagang Province was found to have flown about 4,500 kilometers over Japan.

Considering that the distance to Guam, where the United States air base is, is about 3,400 km, it is interpreted that the level of provocations towards the United States as well as South Korea and Japan has been raised.

President Yun Seok-yeol warned that reckless provocations would face a decisive response.

“This reckless nuclear provocation will face a decisive response from our military, our allies, and the international community.”

The medium-range ballistic missile, believed to be the so-called ‘Hwasong-12’, passed over Japan for the first time in five years and fell into the Pacific Ocean.

Compared to the ‘Hwasong-12’ launched in September 2017, the flight range has increased by 800 kilometers despite the increased altitude.

“It is assumed that (the missile) was made in a much more advanced form with better performance, or that it was fired at maximum range at a normal angle.”

South Korean and US military authorities immediately responded to North Korea’s missile provocations.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said that four Air Force F-15K fighters and four US Air Force F-16 fighters scrambled this afternoon and fired two joint direct hit targets at the target on a shooting range. Jikdo in the West Sea.

The presidential office also held an emergency national security meeting chaired by Kim Seong-han, head of the National Security Bureau to confirm the readiness posture of our military.
