North Korea held a night military parade to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the so-called ‘anti-Japanese partisan’ at Kim Il-sung Square in Pyongyang last night.

Along with a massive fireworks display, 20,000 troops, armored vehicles, and cannons appeared in a row.

Chairman Kim Jong-un appeared at the parade and gave a speech in person.

Appearing in a white military uniform with the rank of Marshal, Chairman Kim emphasized the continuous strengthening of nuclear force.

“We will continue to take measures to further strengthen and develop the nuclear force possessed by our country at the maximum and rapid rate,” said Chairman Kim.

He also hinted at the possibility of using nuclear weapons in case of emergency, saying, “If any force attempts to usurp North Korea’s fundamental interests, North Korea’s nuclear force will have to carry out the following mission.”

It is not exactly clear what Chairman Kim meant by fundamental interests, but it is a noteworthy remark because it implied that North Korea could use nuclear weapons at any time at its own discretion.

North Korea’s proud intercontinental ballistic missile, the Hwasong-17, also appeared at the parade on that day.

Earlier, on the 24th of last month, North Korea reported that it had successfully launched the Hwasong-17.

The South Korean government immediately expressed concern over North Korea’s recent military parade, which mentioned the use of nuclear force.

The Yun Seok-yeol government, which is set to take office on the 10th of next month, strongly criticized North Korea’s movements through the remarks of senior deputy spokesperson for the transition committee, and said that it would fight the North Korean threat by strengthening the ROK-U.S. alliance and developing super-gap technology.
