Nottingham Forest returns to the Premier League after 23 years 270 billion won ‘money cushion’

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hong-seok Ahn = Nottingham Forest, the English professional football ‘traditional house’ that dominated the European stage in the 1970s, will return to the Premier League (EPL) after 23 years.

Nottingham Forest defeated Huddersfield Town 1-0 in the play-off final of the 2021-2022 Season Championship (Second Division) held at Wembley Stadium in London, England on the 30th.

This is the third EPL promotion ticket given to the winning team in the promotion playoffs, following Fulham in 1st place and Bournemouth in 2nd place in the Championship.

Nottingham Forest is back in the first division for the first time in 23 years since the 1998-1999 season, when relegation to the second division was decided.

Nottingham Forest is a team that reigned supreme in the 1970s, winning the First Division League title (1977-1978 season) and winning the League Cup twice (1977-1978 season, 1978-1979 season).

It also achieved two consecutive victories (1978-1979 season and 1979-1980 season) in the European Cup, the predecessor of the UEFA Champions League (UCL).

However, in the 2000s, it had to go through a long dark period.

Nottingham Forest sat on the money cushion as they returned to the Premier League.

According to consulting firm Deloitte, Nottingham Forest will make a profit of £170 million (about 268.8 billion won), including the median price of broadcasting rights from advancing to the first division.

This is about ten times the amount of the UCL championship prize of 22.69 million dollars (about 28.4 billion won) in the 2021-2022 season.

This is not the end. If he succeeds in staying next season, the money earned by Nottingham Forest will increase to £300 million.

Nottingham Forest finished fourth in the Championship and advanced to the promotion playoffs.

In the semi-finals, they drew 3-3 on aggregate against Sheffield United in the first and second legs and went to a penalty shootout before reaching the final.

The final match, which cost more than 200 billion won, was decided by an own goal.

In the 43rd minute of the first half, Huddersfield defender Levi Colwill cleared an opposing cross from the front door and it went into the net.
