Kochi: A youth was arrested for harassing women while walking in the morning in Panampilly Nagar area. Emmanuel C. Kurian (31), a resident of Kulathur, Kuravilangad, Kottayam, was arrested by the shadow police’s special investigation team of the city police commissioner.
He is working as a service engineer in a vehicle showroom in Muvattupuzha. His regular routine was to display nudity and commit atrocities in front of women walking in the morning. He was allegedly harassing the women while riding around on a scooter with the number plate removed.
The South police station has registered four cases against him for allegedly harassing women while roaming in Kadavanthra and Panampilly Nagar areas. Following the spread of the complaint, the city police commissioner Mufti ordered the shadow police team to nab him. For the past few days, the police had intensified their search for him in the Panampilly Nagar area.
Police could not locate him as the scooter did not have a number plate. He continued his routine activities even as the police intensified their investigation. The investigation then focused on the CCTV footage. The police team collected footage from 75 CCTV cameras from the Panampilly Nagar area. They also examined the footage of hundreds of cameras included in the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) installed in various parts of the city.
The accused was identified through an examination comparing the available footage. CCTV footage showed him riding a scooter in several places, including the Info Park area. The accused was then apprehended from Muvattupuzha.
