Delhi: Tokyo Javelin gold medalist Neeraj Chopra says Olympics is a dream come true. There seemed to be little anxiety in the winning moments. But the goal paid off. There are many goals ahead, including the Commonwealth Games. Neeraj Chopra told Asianet News that efforts will be made to achieve this.
Earlier, Neeraj Chopra had said that the training he received at the national camp after the National Games brought him to the Olympics gold. ‘Contact with senior athletes has boosted confidence. The next goal is the World Athletics Championships. Neeraj Chopra added, “Thank you to everyone who supported us to make great strides during the Kovid crisis.”
Athletics Federation Chairman Lalit Bhanot said the country will host javelin throw competitions every year on August 7, when Neeraj Chopra won the Olympic gold medal.
Neeraj is the Golden Boy of India
Neeraj Chopra won India’s first medal in track and field in Olympic history in javelin gold. In Tokyo, Chopra won the gold with a distance of 87.58. This is India’s first gold at the Games since Abhinav Bindra won gold in shooting at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In the first attempt, Neeraj came first with a distance of 87.03 meters and in the second attempt, he maintained his position with a distance of 87.58 meters. Despite crossing the 76.79m mark in the third attempt, Neeraj qualified first for the final round. Neeraj’s fourth and fifth attempts in the last three rounds were fouled but no subsequent throw came out to beat Neeraj.
