Omidron, a new variant of Kovid, is rapidly gaining ground in the country. New research suggests that the Omicron variant may survive longer on surfaces. The study found that the Omicron variant can live on skin for more than 21 hours and on plastic surfaces for more than eight days.

Researchers at the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in Japan The study was conducted. The researchers analyzed the differences in ecological stability between SARS-CoV-2 strain and various variants derived from Wuhan.

The study found that the Wuhan variant could survive more than twice as long as the alpha, beta, delta, and omicron variants. The researchers said that in skin samples it would take 8.6 hours for Wuhan strain, 19.6 hours for alpha, 19.1 hours for beta, 11 hours for gamma, 16.8 hours for delta and 21.1 hours for omega.

Survival times did not differ significantly between the alpha and beta variants. It has also been found that the Omicron variant has the highest survival rate of any variant ever encountered.
