The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency are promoting the ‘e-sports permanent stadium construction project’ to develop regional e-sports and expand the base of e-sports as a leisure culture.

In 2019, Busan City, Gwangju City, and Daejeon City were selected as the target sites for stadium construction, and in 2020, the stadium has been opened and operated in Busan City and Gwangju City. In 2021, Jinju City is additionally selected as the target site for the stadium construction, and the stadium construction plan is being prepared.

Daejeon e-sports permanent stadium, which will be opened for the third time following Busan and Gwangju, was built in the north building of the Advanced Science Center in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon with an investment of 3 billion won and 4 billion won from the city of Daejeon. The main stadium with 500 spectators, a 50-seat auxiliary arena, and various auxiliary facilities for the convenience of players and spectators provide an optimal environment for e-sports events and viewing.

As a regional base e-sports arena, it plans to operate various programs such as amateur e-sports competitions and e-sports competitions for the disabled, and citizen participation-type experiential activities and education.

Daejeon Metropolitan City, leading new industries such as information and communication technology (ICT) and new technology R&D, discovers and nurtures young local talents who will become the foundation of the future growth engine of Korea, game and e-sports industry, centering on the permanent e-sports stadium. It is expected to revitalize the local economy by creating local jobs.

First Vice Minister Oh Young-woo of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, “E-sports is growing globally, including being adopted as an official event of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, and it is a leisure culture that all people can enjoy. We will support the continuous development of the e-sports industry.”
