Opening of the 26th UN Climate Change Convention of the Parties… Urgent preparation to respond to global warming

The 26th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) opens today (31st) in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.

This meeting is being held amid warnings that measures such as additional regulation of carbon dioxide emissions are urgent to prevent the catastrophe of global warming.

Representatives from 197 countries around the world will seek concrete solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 by the 12th of next month.

The United Nations aims to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees by 2100, but has warned that the current rise of 2.7 degrees could be catastrophic for the planet.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned reporters on the 31st that if the parties do not reach a concrete agreement at this meeting, humanity will face serious crises, including food shortages and mass refugees.

“We are at a crossroads between capturing this moment of truth or missing it,” he said.

About 30,000 people, including international organizations, climate change experts, and environmental activists, will attend this meeting, presenting new reports and statistics, and presenting various countermeasures.

However, it is predicted that an agreement will not be easy as three countries, China, the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, India, the third largest, and Russia, the fourth, are passively reaching the goal of ‘zero carbon emissions’ to curb global temperature rise.

Meanwhile, in Glasgow, the site of the assembly, environmental activists continued to protest yesterday calling for an agreement.
