The ‘2021 P4G Seoul Green Future Summit’, Korea’s first multilateral meeting in the field of environment, will be held for two days from the 30th through non-face-to-face video. Through this meeting, President Moon Jae-in and other top and senior leaders of major countries and heads of international organizations are seeking ways to respond to the climate crisis and realize carbon neutrality.

P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030), which means’solidarity for green growth and global goals 2030′, is a global consultative body to respond to climate change and achieve sustainable development goals.

In October 2018, the first summit was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, and the second summit was held in Korea. It is significant in that it is the first environmental multilateral summit to be held in Korea.

Previously, President Moon supported the spirit of inclusion of P4G by attending the first summit held in Copenhagen, Denmark in October 2018.

The opening ceremony is held this afternoon and is held for two days from 30 to 31 under the theme of’realization of a vision for carbon neutrality through inclusive green recovery.’ The summit is largely divided into two sessions: a summit speech session in which the top and the senior level deliver a recorded message, and a discussion session in which the top level participates in a real-time video conference.

A total of 68 people attended, including President Moon Jae-in, 47 top-level and high-ranking major countries, and 21 heads of international organizations. Specifically, the leaders of Britain (Prime Minister Boris Johnson), Germany (Prime Minister Angela Merkel) and France (President Emmanuel Macron) were listed on the list of participants.

The European Union (EU) Executive Chairman and Standing Chair, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the President of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the President of the World Economic Forum (WEF) will also participate.

The United States, Canada, China, Japan, Singapore, and Mexico from five countries participated by non-governmental high-ranking personnel. In the United States, President Joe Biden will be replaced by Climate Special Envoy John Kerry, and in China, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang will be present in place of Chinese President Xi Jinping. In Japan, Minister of Environment Shinjiro Koizumi, Mexico, economy minister, Canada and Singapore, environment minister.

In the discussion session presided over by President Moon, scheduled for the 31st, the exchange of opinions of top-level personnel on green recovery, carbon neutrality, and public-private cooperation will take place in real time. After the debate session, the’Seoul Declaration’, which contains the shared will of the participating countries, is adopted.
