Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz will take over as the Punjab state sports minister. Riaz is making his political bid while active in international cricket. Riaz, who is currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League, will take charge soon after returning to Pakistan.

Interim Prime Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced that Riyaz will be temporarily charged with the sports department of Punjab state, which will hold elections in three months.

He has played 27 Tests, 92 ODIs and 36 T20Is for Pakistan and is the leading wicket-taker in the Pakistan Premier League with 103 wickets. Wahab last played for Pakistan in 2020.

Wahab is not the first cricketer to join politics. Former hero Imran Khan was the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Another reasoner of Sarfaraz Nawaz was the Sports Minister in Benazir Bhutto’s government.
