PAK vs NZ | Security threat: New Zealand abandon tour of Pakistan minutes before toss – News18 Malayalam

New Zealand withdrew from the tour of Pakistan minutes before the toss of the first match of the series citing security threats. The Kiwis Cricket Board said the withdrawal was in line with a security warning issued by the New Zealand government. The board said the New Zealand players would leave Pakistan as soon as possible.

The tour consisted of three ODIs and two T20I matches. The New Zealand cricket team arrived in Pakistan after 18 years. The visit was to play a three-match ODI series and five T20I matches starting September 17. The ODIs were played in Rawalpindi on September 17, 19 and 21 and the T20 matches were played in Lahore.

‘I understand that leaving the tour like this is a heavy blow to the Pakistan Cricket Board. They received us here in the best possible way and provided venues for the competitions. But the only option is to withdraw from the series as the safety of the players cannot be compromised, “said David White, chief executive of the New Zealand Cricket Board.

It was confusing that neither player was on the field for the match. The fact that the spectators were not allowed into the stadium also raised suspicions. New Zealand cricket then clarified the incident. New Zealand had decided to withdraw from the tour as officials said they had doubts about the security arrangements in Pakistan as per the government directive.

Dramatic events unfolded as the match was about to start at three o’clock late. The New Zealand players refused to take the field. The first report was that Kovid had confirmed some of the players in the New Zealand team. However, the New Zealand board later announced that the series would be canceled due to security concerns. The board has made it clear that it will not comment on what kind of security issue has arisen in Pakistan.

New Zealand came here for the first time since Pakistan won the ODI series 5-0 in 2003. The Pakistan-New Zealand ODI series was ruled out of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League due to lack of decision review facility (DRS). The Pakistan Cricket Board and the New Zealand Cricket Board have agreed to hold a two-match series.
