PAKISTAN APPOINTMENT – On Jan. 25, Reuters reported that Pakistan appointed Judge Ayesha Malik, 55, as the country’s first female judge of the Supreme Court. On Monday, Jan. 24, after being selected by a committee that decides to promote judges.

Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted: “I congratulate Judge Ajesha Malik, who is the first female Supreme Court Justice.”
A nine-person committee confirming the appointment of a female judge Ayesha Malik was initially denied a promotion last year, before a five-to-four vote to endorse Ayesha Malik this year.
However, some lawyers criticized the decision. It argued that Ayesha Malik was elected, although he was not one of the three senior judges in the court of first instance where Ayesha Malik was before he was promoted. and demanding objective criteria for the promotion of judges as well
