Pakistan wants four-nation Twenty20 Cricket / Pakistan Cricket Board

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramis Raja has issued a directive for a four-nation Twenty20 tournament between India, Pakistan, Australia and England. Rameez Raja said the proposal for the annual tournament would be submitted to the International Cricket Council (ICC). Pakistan has proposed holding a tournament in each country each year and distributing the proceeds to all ICC member states.

Pakistan’s proposal to hold a four – nation tournament with the participation of four important teams in international cricket has been cited as not generating the expected revenue from the two – nation series between the two countries.

‘My opinion is that we need a new system to find and share revenue. For this, a new company should be registered under the ICC and a CEO should be appointed solely to manage the financial affairs. Under the leadership of that company, the revenue should be distributed to all countries. At the international level, the clash between England and Australia in the Ashes series is gaining huge fan attention. Even when India and Pakistan clash, it will gain public attention. So when these four teams meet face to face in a four-nation tournament it is sure to be a huge success. In addition to the current series, other tournaments should be organized to attract and satisfy the fans, ”Rameez Raja told Cricinfo.

Rameez Raja first shared the idea of a four-nation tournament on Twitter. He also hinted that he would approach the ICC with such an idea. Ramis Raja puts forward a similar tournament called the ‘Six Nations’ where six important teams in rugby meet face to face every year.

‘It seems like no big deal with two-nation Twenty20 tournaments. This is because the series is competing with the popularity of Twenty20 leagues in different parts of the world. But if the Twenty20 tournaments are attended by three or four countries, there is a possibility of huge revenue, ”said Rameez Raja.

Earlier, Sourav Ganguly had shared the idea of such a tournament during his tenure as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Ganguly came up with the idea of alternating between India, England and Australia and fourthly a team. The move was to start this tournament in 2021.
