[이데일리 스타in 임정우 기자] Park Min-ji (23) broke the 1.5 billion won in prize money for the first time in a single season on the Korean Women’s Professional Golf (KLPGA) tour.

Park Min-ji hit 2-under 70 in the final 4 rounds of the SK Networks Seoul Economy Ladies Classic (total prize money 800 million won) on the KLPGA Tour held at Pinx Golf Club (par 72) in Seogwipo-si, Jeju Island on the 31st. Park Min-ji, with a final total of even par 288, was tied for 32nd.

Park Min-ji, who is performing the best on the KLPGA tour this season, was named in the top 10 with 13 wins, including 6 wins, and confirmed the prize money and multiple wins early. In this tournament, it was the first time in a single season on the KLPGA tour to exceed 1.5 billion won in prize money. Park Min-ji tied for 32nd place and won 5.72 million won in prize money. This season, the prize money was increased to 1.5,356,980 won, rewriting the history of the KLPGA tour.

The early confirmation of the target was unfortunately unsuccessful. Park Min-ji, who had scored 657 points until the last competition, was 107 points ahead of second-placed Lim Hee-jeong (550 points). However, he did not make it to the top 10 in this competition and failed to add target points. Unlike the prize money, the target points can only be received by being in the top 10 in every match.

Points eligible for the KLPGA Tour are applied differentially according to the size of the tournament and final ranking. In this competition, the winner will receive 60 points for a prize of 800 million won or more but less than 1 billion won. 50 points for the S-Oil Championship and 70 points for the SK Shielders and SK Telecom Championships.

If Park Min-ji leads by 71 points or more over second-placed Lim Hee-jeong by the end of the S-Oil Championship, she will complete three gold medals, the grand prize, and the grand prize ahead of the SK Shielders and SK Telecom Championship, the final match of this season. Park Min-ji will be at the Elysian Country Club in Aewol-eup, Jeju-si for three days from the 5th to early confirmation of the grand prize.

Lim Hee-jeong, who placed second in the grand prize points, recorded a final total of 10 under par 278 in this tournament, taking third place alone, and narrowing the gap with first-placed Park Min-ji by 98 points. It is not an impossible scenario for Lim Hee-jung, who finished 10th in the last five competitions, to reverse Park Min-ji in the remaining two competitions. If Lim Hee-jung climbs to the top of both competitions and Park Min-ji does not make it into the top 10, the grand prize winner could be reversed.
