The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 6th that Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong met with Ukrainian lawmakers including Sergi Taruta and Andri Nikolaiyenko, and Ukrainian Ambassador to Korea Dmitro Ponomarenko to discuss cooperation in the reconstruction project in Ukraine.

Prior to this, the government sent a delegation composed of the second vice foreign minister and the head of the overseas construction policy division of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to the ‘Ukraine Reconstruction Conference’ held in Lugano, Switzerland for two days from the 4th, and expressed its will to participate in the Ukraine reconstruction project.
Through this interview, the participation of Korean companies in the $750 billion reconstruction project announced by the Ukrainian government is expected to increase.
Senator Sergi Taruta said, “The Russian invasion destroyed more than 12,000 houses in Mariupol and 95% of the infrastructure,” he said.
After the meeting, Minister Won instructed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to take the lead in the Ukraine reconstruction project by establishing a close cooperation system between the industry and public companies such as the Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Support Corporation (KIND) based on the experience of the Iraq reconstruction project currently in progress.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport decided to form a “Ukrainian Reconstruction Council” jointly with the government, public corporations, and industry by the end of this month and focus its capabilities on the Ukraine reconstruction project.
