Private sector organizations in Oman will be fined if they delay the salaries of their workers, the Ministry of Labor has said. Employers who delay paying their employees will be fined 100 Riyals per employee per month. Of the 24,000 labor complaints received by Oman’s Ministry of Labor in 2022, more than 13,000 were related to wages.
A member of the Wage Protection Program team, Saif bin Salem Al Zabi, said that there were cases of companies delaying the salaries of their employees for up to eight months. In accordance with the law, the workers must be paid by the 8th of each month. If the employer delays in paying the employee his monthly salary, each employee will be fined 100 Riyals per month and will be doubled every month.
