Alex Seagull, who heads a research group for the new coronavirus at the African Institute of Health in South Africa (AHRI), said yesterday that the Omicron variant of coronavirus’s ability to evade vaccine and infection immunity is “strong but not perfect.” The research result was clarified.
AHRI researchers have found that the Omicron strain can partially bypass the corona vaccine developed by Pfizer and Biontech. But that ability isn’t perfect, and booster inoculation can provide additional protection, Seagull said in an online presentation.
