PGA “CEO Joo-Hyung Kim (Chief Energy Officer)”… Expectations for the youngest participant

The 2022 Presidents Cup to be held in the United States on the 23rd
“Tom Kim (English name Kim Joo-hyung) is still 20 years old, but he will be the CEO.”

On the 20th, three days before the start of the 2022 Presidents Cup (a group match between international and American teams excluding Europe), the PGA Tour explained about Kim Joo-hyeong (20). The new meaning of ‘Chief Energy Officer’ instead of ‘CEO’ is a result of reflecting expectations for Kim Joo-hyung’s ‘young blood’.

Kim Joo-hyung is the youngest participant in this tournament, which will start on the 23rd at the Quail Holo Club (par 71) in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. He is the third youngest in the history of the tournament, following Ryo Ishikawa (then 18 in Japan) in 2009 and Jordan Spieth (then 20 in the United States) in 2013. Thanks to Kim Joo-hyung joining, he formed the international team the youngest average age (28.8 years) ever. Trevor Immelman, international team leader (age 43, South Africa) also expressed his expectations, saying, “He’s so mature and balanced that he can’t believe he’s just turned 20.” Kim Joo-hyung said, “I hope we can all enjoy the game as much as possible as children. I also want to be good energy for the team.” From a young age, he traveled to different countries such as China, Australia, the Philippines, and Thailand, and was familiar with various cultures as well as languages such as English and Filipino Tagalog. The expectation is that he will be able to create a new atmosphere for the international team, which has been somewhat lacking in communication due to language barriers and cultural differences. In addition to Kim Joo-hyung, Im Seong-jae (24), Kim Si-woo (27), and Lee Kyung-hoon (31) have the most appearances (4) of Korean players, and Choi Kyung -joo (52). ) joined as the vice president, so it’s easy to melt into the atmosphere of the tournament. Veteran Adam Scott (42, Australia), who is about to appear in the 10th tournament, also praised Kim Joo-hyung as “the perfect player we want.”

The PGA Tour also highlighted the conflicted relationship between Joo-Hyung Kim and the Presidents Cup. I lived in Melbourne, Australia, where the tournament was held in 2011, but I couldn’t find the venue in person because my family couldn’t afford to buy tickets at the time. When the tournament was held in Incheon in 2015, I had to live in the Philippines and watch the tournament through a broadcast screen.

Joo-hyung Kim, who had the chance to play and get rid of past regrets, is accompanied by caddy Joe Skovron, who carried the bag of Ricky Fowler (34) until last season. Skovron was also the caddy when Fowler picked up his first win on tour at the Wells Fargo Championship this way in 2012. The PGA Tour expressed their expectation, saying, “Maybe this is the start of the next step.”
