Phra Lap, a small village nestled in the heart of Khon Kaen Province, is leaving no stone unturned in its battle against dengue fever. On September 28, 2023, at precisely 1:00 pm, a dedicated team of government officials, village health volunteers, and officers from the Public Health and Environment Division assembled in Ban Phra Kue village. Their mission? To eliminate Aedes mosquitoes, the carriers of dengue fever, and their larvae. This decisive action came on the heels of the discovery of a dengue fever patient within the community.

Collaboration between Phra Lab Subdistrict Health Promotion Hospital and the local community has been instrumental in formulating an effective plan to monitor and prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes. When a dengue fever case is confirmed, immediate action is taken, which includes close monitoring, thorough screening, and prompt treatment of affected individuals, ensuring that the infected patient and their family receive the necessary care.

Phongthon Phisaphitakkul, the Mayor of Phra Lap Sub-District, expressed his commitment to combating this outbreak, stating, “We have launched proactive measures to prevent the spread of Aedes mosquitoes. Our municipality works closely with Sub-Regional Health Promotion Hospitals, Village Health Volunteers, Administrative Departments, and Regional Public Health Offices to intensify surveillance and prevention efforts. These measures are particularly crucial during the current period of incessant heavy rainfall in Khon Kaen Province, as we concurrently address both flooding and the spread of water-borne diseases, including dengue fever and hand, foot, and mouth disease.”

A proactive approach is adopted whereby a joint working group promptly investigates and restricts potential outbreak areas upon receiving reports of dengue fever cases. As the infected patients receive quality medical care, the municipality diligently sprays mosquitoes and eliminates Aedes larvae in various community locations such as temples, schools, and public spaces.

Addressing the public in light of the continuous rainfall, Phongthon reiterated the importance of personal responsibility in ensuring a healthy environment. He urged residents to remain vigilant, maintaining strict hygiene practices and eliminating any potential breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes within their homes. Additionally, he emphasized that if anyone suspects being infected or experiences any illness symptoms, they should promptly coordinate with the municipality and the Village Health Volunteers, who stand ready to offer timely treatment and diagnosis.
