Pianist Hyuk Lee advances to the final of the Chopin Competition

Pianist Lee Hyuk (21, photo) advanced to the final of the world-renowned ’18th Chopin Competition’.

The Chopin Competition, held every five years, is one of the world’s top three piano competitions, along with the Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia and the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Belgium.

Initially, Kim Soo-yeon (27), along with Lee Hyuk, also entered the 3rd competition in the final, but did not advance to the final. The final judging results will be released after 6 pm (local time) on the 20th, when the last performance ends, and at the dawn of the 21st, Korean time.

Koreans who have advanced to the finals of the Chopin Competition so far include Lim Dong-min, Lim Dong-hyuk, and Son Yeol-eum in 2005, and Seong-jin Seong in 2015. Seong-jin Seong was the first Korean to win the championship at the age of 21 at the time, while brothers Dong-min Lim and Dong-hyuk Lim tied for third place.
