Players who participated in the DP World Tour LIV Golf Tournament were fined 150 million won

DP World Tour has imposed a ban and fines on players participating in the LIV Golf Invitational Series competition sponsored by Saudi Arabian capital.

The DP World Tour announced on the 24th (local time), “Players who participated in the opening match of the LIV Golf Invitational Series will have to pay a fine of 100,000 pounds (about 150 million won) and will not be able to participate in the three tournaments to be held from the beginning of July.” announced that

The DP World Tour, which was operated under the name of the European Tour until last year, is an organization that leads the world men’s golf along with the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour has already imposed a disciplinary action against players who participated in the LIV Golf Invitational Series, which took place near London, England from the 9th to the 11th, to prevent them from participating in PGA Tour tournaments in the future.

However, since the DP World Tour did not announce any disciplinary measures against players who participated in the LIV series, there were also observations that ‘the DP World Tour is leaning towards the LIV series rather than the PGA Tour’.

The three DP World Tour events to be held from the beginning of July are the Scottish Open, Barbasol Championship, and Barracuda Championship.

As the PGA Tour has already banned LIV players from participating in the tournaments they organize, the DP World Tour’s ban on LIV players from participating in these three tournaments is not effective.

DP World Tour said, “If players continue to compete in the LIV series without permission, additional disciplinary action will be considered.”

However, it is expected that players from LIV will be able to participate in the major tournament The Open from July 14 to 17, which is the same period as the Barracuda Championship.

The Open is a competition organized by British R&A, not the PGA Tour or DP World Tour.

R&A recently said, “The basis of our competition is openness.”

The second LIV series will open on the 30th in Portland, Oregon, USA, and the PGA Tour John Deere Classic will be held in Silvis, Illinois, USA during the same period.

The total prize money of the second LIV series is 25 million dollars, and the John Deere Classic is 7.1 million dollars.
