Plunge membership of ‘Happy Point’ app users due to the spread of the SPC boycott

15% evaporation in a week for active users

The number of users of the ‘Happy Point’ app, which is a member of SPC, is also falling as the boycott spreads following the death of a worker at a bakery factory linked to SPC. According to the mobile index of IG Works, a large data platform company, on the 26th, the number of Happy Point app users has been on the decline since the 15th, when the fatal accident occurred.

On the 15th, the day of the accident, the combined daily active users (DAU) of the Happy Point app in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store were 628,000. However, the next day, the number dropped by 8% to 578,000 people. The number of users of the app is usually 600,000, but the number has dropped by 50,000 in one day.

On the 18th, when the movement spread online and offline, such as when the keyword boycott was posted on Twitter as a real-time search, the number continued to drop to 548,000. On the 22nd, it dropped to 531,000, and compared to the 15th, BOTH evaporated 15% in a week. This is the lowest level of DAU the app has recorded over the past year. This app is operated by Sectanine, which is affiliated with the information and communication technology marketing solution of SPC.

SPC’s delivery and collection service platform app ‘Happy Order’ also showed a drop in users similar to the Happy Point app. DAU of the Happy Order app dropped from 53,000 on the 15th to 38,000 on the 20th, the lowest in recent years.

On the 15th, a worker in his 20s died in an accident while mixing bread sauce at the SPL bakery in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, a subsidiary of SPC. SPC restarted the factory with the cloth wrapped around it the day after the accident, and was criticized for bringing a box of related bread products to the burial site of the deceased who died while making the related bread sauce .

SPC Chairman Heo Young-in held a press conference on the 21st to apologize and announced measures to prevent a recurrence, but two days later, on the 23rd, a worker in his 40s injured his finger at the Shani Bakery Factory, a related company in Seongnam , Gyeonggi-do, and the apology was ineffective.
