Poland said it should support Ukraine with the Patriot missile defense system, which was backed by Germany.

According to AFP, on the 23rd (local time), Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Mariusz Włáščak wrote on Twitter that “Germany has asked Poland to send its planned Patriot system to Ukraine, where it can be installed on its western border. ”

“With this support, Ukraine will be able to defend itself against more casualties and blackouts and strengthen the security of its eastern borders,” said Deputy Prime Minister Buwashcak.

Previously, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said in an interview with German media Reinische Post on the 20th that it supports Poland with the Patriot missile system.

Germany’s decision to use this is interpreted as being aware of the recent missile attack in Poland.

Earlier, at around 3:40 pm on the 15th (11:40 pm Korean time), a missile hit the village of Prozełodow in eastern Poland, bordering Lviv in western Ukraine, killing two people.

NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg said the Polish missiles appeared to have been accidentally launched by Ukrainian air defenses rather than a Russian attack.

The German government said it was willing to support NATO members to strengthen their air defenses, fearing that the war in Ukraine could spread beyond its borders in the wake of the Polish missile attack.

The Patriot missile system, manufactured by Raytheon of the United States, is known as a weapon system capable of intercepting an approaching missile.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is scrambling to secure missile stockpiles and equip air defense systems as the Russian offensive on Ukraine begins.

Germany, the front line of NATO during the Cold War, had 36 Patriot units, and even then was dependent on support from NATO members. But now the Germans have reduced the number of Patriot units to 12, two of which are used in Slovakia.
