Police file case against patient for kidney transplant death – Medical College | Organ recipient

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have registered a case against a patient who died during a kidney transplant at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The case was registered on the complaint of the brother of Suresh (54), a native of Karakonam. Heads of urology and nephrology departments at the hospital were suspended in connection with the incident. It is alleged that Suresh’s surgery was delayed by four hours.

The kidney was brought from Kochi at 5.30 pm on Sunday but the surgery was performed after 9 pm. Suresh died on Monday morning after failing to undergo surgery. It is alleged that the box containing the kidney was dropped after it was taken over by the hospital staff. The doctors, who are the heads of the urology and nephrology departments, were suspended after it was found that there was a lack of coordination.
