Last Month, Pregnant Woman and Unborn Child Fatally Shot by Police in Ohio
In a tragic incident last month, a pregnant woman and her unborn child lost their lives after being shot by the police in Ohio, USA. The police have defended their actions, claiming it was a justified response. However, the family of the victims is still grieving and seeking justice for their unfair deaths.
On the 24th of last month, the incident took place in a quiet mart car park on the outskirts of the city. Responding to a report of someone stealing alcohol and banging on the window of a black car, a police officer approached the vehicle. Despite repeated requests, the driver, with only the windshield slightly lowered, questioned the officer’s demand to get out of the car.
Amidst the ensuing scuffle, the car started to pull away while the police attempted to break the front window. In response, another police officer positioned in front of the vehicle fired shots directly into the front window. The moving car eventually came to a halt after colliding with a construction wall.
The driver, identified as Takiya Young, a 21-year-old black woman and mother of two, was shot and tragically lost her life along with her unborn child. Following the incident, she was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Only after strong public outcry from the bereaved family did the police release the body camera footage over a week later. The intention was to demonstrate that repeated requests for compliance were ignored and that the driver posed a threat to the police officers.
Upon reviewing the video, the family’s lawyer stated, “We were able to confirm that the young woman was unlawfully killed.” The footage revealed no justification for the use of lethal force by the police officers.
An independent investigation by the Ohio Department of Criminal Investigation is currently underway to examine the police response to the incident. Meanwhile, the two police officers involved in the shooting have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
This case has garnered significant attention from local media, as it raises concerns about excessive use of force against the black community. It remains to be seen whether this tragic incident will spark further debates on preventing such incidents in the future.

During the scuffle, the car starts to pull away as the police try to break the front window.
At that moment, another police officer in front of the car opened fire right in front of the front window.
The moving car only stopped after hitting a construction wall.
The driver who was shot was Takiya Young, a 21-year-old black woman with two children and a pregnant woman.
After the incident, he was taken to hospital, but died along with the fetus.
When the bereaved family drew strong attention to the overreaction, police released the body camera more than a week after the incident.
It was to show that he had not responded to repeated requests for an inspection and that he was driving to the police.
The bereaved family’s lawyer, who checked the video, said, “We were able to confirm that the young woman was killed,” and “We could not find any reason for immunity from police officers in the video.”
The Ohio Department of Criminal Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the police response.
The two policemen involved in the case were suspended from their work while the investigation continues.
