Politics in vain in transcripts – The Kyunghyang Shinmun

The spread of the truth workshop between Lee Jun-seok and Won Hee-ryong
Falling into the swamp of distrust of the people’s power
“The president is biased… create a riot”
Primary runners policy competition is missing

The power of the people is not getting out of the swamp of distrust and conflict. Lee Jun-seok’s call recording scandal spread as a truth game surrounding the target of ‘that’. The spark of conflict between CEO Lee and former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol spread through the leadership and presidential candidates to the general assembly of lawmakers. In the midst of revelations and scuffles, the vision competition was pushed aside. The coexistence and change that were called for at the 6/11 National Convention were overshadowed.

On the 18th, the atmosphere of the People’s Power was chaotic all day. CEO Lee released part of a transcript of the phone call with Won Hee-ryong, former Jeju governor, on the social networking service (SNS) the night before. This is a controversial call, as former Governor Won said that Lee said with the intent that ‘Ex-President Yoon will be cleared up soon.’ It is an unusual situation in which a transcript of a confidential conversation between President Lee and a presidential candidate is disclosed.

In the transcript, CEO Lee said, “The way I see it, the other side (former President Yoon) is doing that in the process of joining the party, and now they are talking loudly. That will be sorted out soon.” President Lee took the position that ‘that’ refers to the conflict in the past, but former Governor Won refuted. At a press conference at the National Assembly, former governor Won said, “I am speaking with my memory and conscience.” There was a game of truth in which the story of the person who spoke and the person who heard it diverge. Afterwards, CEO Lee wrote on SNS, “It’s just pitiful.” Rep. Ha Tae-kyung, the presidential candidate, called for the resignation of Won’s candidacy, saying, “Which country’s president has distorted the contents of a private phone call and hit the back of the head”.

The fighting continued in the Uichong. It has been about half a day since Chairman Lee wrote on his SNS, “There should no longer be arguments other than visions, policies, reforms and innovations within the party.” Suh Byung-soo, chairman of the party’s primary preparatory committee, explained his position on internal redness and said, “Please pay attention to why you are shaking the leadership like this.” Rep. Kwak Sang-do exclaimed, “We must not reverse the words we really want.” Even after floor leader Kim Ki-hyun switched the meeting to private, remarks aimed at Chairman Seo and Chairman Lee continued.

Rep. Han Jung-jin is said to have said, “Who shook the leader?” and “Lee did not play the role of party leader, but created a riot by making biased remarks and recording calls.” Another senior lawmaker said, “We need to show self-love, starting with President Lee. We need not only criticize President Lee, but also that senior leaders and floor leaders should play an active role and hold parliamentary meetings frequently.”

About 10 days before the departure of the Gyeongseon Bus, the vision competition disappeared. Seven newly elected lawmakers, including Woong Kim, Yeji Kim, Hyungdong Kim, Sooyoung Park, Wonsik Shin, Gyeongjun Yoo, and Taeyong Jo, said, “I feel a heavy sense of shame when I see conflicts and divisions. let’s not Let’s ask everyone from today and let’s go into the future together.”

The People’s Power revised the name of the party and launched it in September last year, proclaiming “a party that creates a tomorrow for all” in the first line of its platform policy. In his acceptance speech, CEO Lee said, “From this time on, each and every one of us, please stand up against those who try to rely on old fashions such as unnecessary profanity, conspiracy theories, and framing, rather than mutually logical criticism or sincere criticism.”
