Pope Francis offers his deepest condolences to the victims of the Christmas Parade disaster in the United States.

According to the Vatican on the 23rd (local time), the Pope sent a message of condolences to the US Archbishop of Milwaukee, Jerome Listecki, in the name of Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

In the preamble, the Pope urges everyone affected by the tragic event to convey spiritual intimacy: “I entrust the souls of those who have lost their lives to the mercy of the Lord’s love, and I entreat the wounded and the bereaved for the divine gift of healing and comfort.” said.

“I will join the prayers of the Lord for spiritual strength for all to overcome violence and overcome evil with good,” the Pope added.

At least five people were killed and more than 40 injured when a car rushed into the middle of a Christmas parade at the Waukee Show, a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA on the 21st.

At least nine of those injured are said to be in critical condition.

Most of them are children.

The 39-year-old suspect, who was arrested at the scene, is said to have committed the crime while fleeing after being reported to the police for domestic violence.

He was charged with first degree intentional murder.
