Pope presents Modi with bronze plaque; Modi’s gift of a candle pedestal and a book

Vatican City ∙ During a meeting at the Vatican, Pope Francis presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a bronze plaque with an olive leaf. The olive tree is a symbol of hope in the Bible. The bronze plaque reads, “The desert will be a garden.”

Modi presented a silver candle pedestal and a book on climate change to the Pope.

The candle pedestal was handed over with the introduction that it was specially made in India. The book ‘The Climate Climb’ talks about the steps taken by India to tackle climate change. The pope later explained the features of the bronze plaque given to Modi.

Modi had invited the Pope to India during a meeting at the Papal House Library.
