Power regulation in the state today; Cities and hospitals excluded | Power cut

Thiruvananthapuram: As the coal shortage has affected the operation of power plants, power will be restricted in the state today. The control time will vary according to the power received from the market. Cities and hospitals are out of control.

Officials said they were looking to reduce control time by buying maximum power. Control will be between 6pm and 11pm. It is expected to be under control for about fifteen minutes.

There is a difference of 400 MW between the GDP and consumption of the State. The board does not receive power from the power exchange except through long-term contracts. The shortage of 78 MW of power is due to the shortage of coal affecting the operation of three plants. The technical problem at the plant in Bengal led to a shortfall of 135 MW.

Due to the shortage of coal, there has been a drastic reduction in the power supplied by the producers to the power exchange. It is also the month when Kerala becomes more dependent on the power exchange as consumption increases due to heat. It relies on power exchange even when the power supply is reduced due to malfunction of the machines.

Consumption is highest in April and May, but no agreement is reached with the producers. Consumption will decrease on some days due to summer rains. The pre-contract is then avoided to prevent power surplus. They are looking for other ways to overcome the crisis. It is also planning to enter into direct agreements with the manufacturers, officials said.
