Windows 11, a new update for Windows, has finally been announced. However, the current situation is that the whole picture has not been announced yet. In this article, based on the information from the official announcement, we will organize and explain what we know about Windows 11 as of July 2021.
Announcement on June 24, 2021
At the “What’s Next for Windows” event, Microsoft announced some of the new features in Windows 11. It is midnight on June 25, 2021 in Japan time.
When will Windows 11 be available?
Even though the announcement is in June, we do not know the specific date when it will be provided. However, according to Microsoft officials, we know we will offer a free upgrade in late 2021.
About Windows 10 support
The Windows 10 OS you are using now does not mean that you will not be able to use it immediately. Windows 10 will end support on October 14, 2025. Therefore, it seems that you do not have to update immediately after the release of Windows 11. 6 years from Windows 10 provided in July 2015. Initially, “Windows 10 was the last version” was whispered, but it is expected that Windows OS will remain as a service in the future.
Be the first to try Windows 11 with the Insider Program
Insider Program is a service that allows you to quickly try out a preview of a new upgrade. Any Windows 10 user with a Microsoft account can register.
Not all models are compatible, so make sure your PC is compatible in advance.
Insider Program Registration Procedures
From the Start screen, open “Settings”, “Updates and Security”, and select “Windows Insider Program” at the bottom. Then press “Start” to go to the account selection screen. You can update to the version distributed by the Insider Program by selecting your account, selecting your Dev channel, and clicking Confirm.
New function ① Android application can be supported
Android apps will be added to the Microsoft Store in Windows 11. You will also be able to download the app via the Amazon Appstore.
At the “What’s Next for Windows” event on June 24, 2021, I had the opportunity to demonstrate the TikTok app appearing directly on Windows.
In the demonstration, the TikTok video was played in portrait view on the mobile app.
Microsoft CPO Panos Panay explained that it was “Intel Bridge technology” that made this app integration possible. It can be started in parallel with the application on Windows.
In the future, not only TikTok but also mobile-only apps such as Kindle and Mercari may be available.
Intention to support Android apps
Microsoft seems to be looking to work with mobile.
The official Windows Twitter account for 2020 states:
Get ready to enjoy the best of multiple phone apps – social feeds, friends, even food delivery – right on your Windows 10 laptop. Coming soon!

It can be inferred that it is intended for use on tablet terminals and 2in1 notebook PCs in the future. Apple also released an iPad-only OS the previous year. I can imagine a future where mobile and PC will be easier to work together.
New function (2) Wider range of input
Three- and four-finger gestures have been added, and the voice input function has been further improved.
It also has a touch keyboard function that appears on the screen.
New function ③ Display environment
It supports automatic HDR, and you can now automatically adjust the color tone, brightness, and refresh rate. The refresh rate is the precision of flipbooks, which is “how many times the screen is updated per second”.
In addition, the multi-display environment has also been enhanced. If you memorize the window of the external display and reconnect the display that was not connected again, it will return to the position of the window when it was connected.
Uses a design language called Fluent. Compared to Windows 10, there are more rounded corners, giving an overall soft impression. In addition, the standard position of the start button is placed in the center, and only frequently used apps are pinned. Other designs have been redesigned, so why not give it a try with the Insider Program?

Models that can support Windows 11 have the following requirements.
64-bit compatible processor / SoC with 2 cores or more at 1 GHz or higher
4GB or more

In addition, Microsoft plans to release a tool that can check PC health in the future. It was in preparation at the time of writing in July 2021.
There are many uncertain new features, and we will keep an eye on future trends. If new information comes out in the future, I would like to introduce it in an additional article.
