President Moon asks for support for end of war declaration

President Moon Jae-in asked the leaders of China, Japan, Russia and ASEAN countries, including US President Joe Biden, to support the declaration of an end to the Korean War proposed at the UN General Assembly last month.

President Moon attended the 16th East Asia Summit, that is, EAS, held via video yesterday (27th) and said, “The declaration of an end to the war opens the door to dialogue and is an important starting point for peace on the Korean Peninsula, Asia, and even the world. Please,” said Park Kyung-mi, a spokeswoman for the Blue House, in a written briefing.

“For peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region, sincere diplomatic efforts are needed to resolve the Myanmar crisis and complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” Biden said.

The meeting, which was held for about 2 hours and 20 minutes from 8 p.m. yesterday evening via video, included President Moon and the heads of nine ASEAN countries, the leaders of ASEAN dialogue partners, the United States, China, Japan, Russia, Australia, India, and New Zealand, as well as the World Health Organization and World Trade. The Secretary-General of the Organization and others were present.
