On the 15th, President Moon Jae-in left for three countries in the Middle East: the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Egypt for 8 days and 6 nights.
President Moon departed for Dubai, the UAE for the first time on his first trip aboard the presidential plane ‘Air Force 1’ from Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province at 12:25 pm on the same day.
At the airport, the government showed off Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Interior and Safety, and Kim Hyeon-soo, commander of the 15th Special Mission Wing of the Air Force, to see off President Moon and his wife. At the Blue House, Chief of Staff Yoo Young-min and National Security Office Director Suh Hoon were seen off.
According to Blue House spokesman Park Kyung-mi, President Moon had instructed Chief of Staff Yu, who was leaving the country, to “take care of the quarantine situation with the Prime Minister as the center of the outbreak, as there are concerns about the spread of the Omicron mutation.”
Director of the National Security Office Suh Hoon said, “I hope that we will not lower our vigilance so as not to create tensions on the Korean Peninsula,” and ordered him to closely monitor related trends.
Initially, Director Seo was scheduled to leave for a tour with President Moon, but decided to stay in Korea in the face of a series of North Korean provocations. The day before, President Moon gave orders to chief of staff Seo to ‘stay in Korea and keep an eye on North Korea-related developments’.
Regarding the collapse of a new apartment building in Gwangju, he ordered the Minister of Public Administration and Security Jeon Jeon-cheol to “support the swift rescue of the missing person and the resolution of the accident.”
President Moon will attend the Korea-UAE Hydrogen Cooperation Business Roundtable on the 16th, the second day after the tour, and digest the schedule of the Dubai Expo ‘Korea Day’ official event and the Korea-UAE summit.
From the 18th, he will visit Saudi Arabia and deliver a keynote speech at the ‘Korea-Saudi Smart Innovative Growth’ forum, an economic event between Korean-Saudi businessmen. From the 20th, the Korea-Egypt solo and expanded summit will be held in Egypt, and the ‘Korea-Egypt Future Green Business Roundtable’ event in which companies from both countries participate.
